Spring on Cape Cod is one of the most underrated (and most beautiful) times of year. The air is crisp, the crowds haven’t fully arrived yet, and soft florals and coastal grasses begin to come back to life.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a session, spring is the perfect season for updated family photos, engagement sessions, seniors, or just capturing this moment in your life. Plus then, you're super prepared for when holiday card time rolls around!

Here are some of my favorite locations on and around Cape Cod for spring photos, each with a slightly different vibe depending on what you’re envisioning.

Heritage Museums & Gardens – Sandwich, MA

Why it’s perfect:

This is one of the most iconic spring locations on Cape Cod for a reason. The grounds absolutely come alive with tulips, rhododendrons, and flowering trees, giving you a huge variety of colorful backdrops in one place! Plus, the gardens are family friendly, and include interactive spaces like the Hidden Hollow and antique carousel!

Best for: Families, maternity, couples, seniors

Vibe: Colorful, whimsical, romantic garden

Notes: Heritage is only available for photo sessions on certain days, and does require an extra fee to use the space.

Talbot's Point Conservation Area – East Sandwich, MA

Why it’s perfect:

A quieter, hidden gem with a mix of marsh views, woodsy trails, and soft meadows. It gives you that classic Cape Cod feel with a hint of rustic vibes mixed in.

Best for: Families, couples, seniors

Vibe: Natural, peaceful, rustic

Notes: some parts of the trail can be a bit tricky, not recommended for individuals who need mobile accomodations

Mayflower Beach – Dennis, MA

Why it’s perfect:

At low tide, the sand stretches for what feels like miles, creating dreamy reflections and soft neutral tones. Spring sunsets here are so pretty and peaceful before the busy season begins.

Best for: Couples, engagements, families, seniors

Vibe: Soft, airy, coastal

Notes: In the summer months, parking does cost money before 6 PM. At sunset, the beach can be busy, but has plenty of spots to beat the crowds.

Plymouth Waterfront – Plymouth, MA

Why it’s perfect:

If you want a mix of coastal views and classic New England charm, Plymouth is such a good option. You get boats, docks, open water, gardens, and walkable paths all in one area.

Best for: Couples, seniors, families

Vibe: Nautical, classic New England, relaxed

Notes: Parking can be limited and may cost money during peak season, so it is best to plan ahead!

Chatham Lighthouse Beach – Chatham, MA

Why it’s perfect:

This is the definition of a classic Cape Cod backdrop — lighthouse views, dunes, beach grass, and ocean. It feels timeless and iconic in photos.

Best for: Families, couples, visitors to Cape Cod

Vibe: Breezy, coastal, timeless New England

Tips for Planning Your Spring Photo Session

  • Book early – spring is short and dates fill quickly
  • Plan for golden hour – that last hour before sunset gives the dreamiest light
  • Dress in soft tones – neutrals, creams, pastels, and light denim photograph beautifully
  • Layers are key – Cape Cod weather can still be chilly in spring
